Post by Sun Liao on Jul 9, 2008 18:45:21 GMT -5
The air is cold and stark, the sky is an endless black pit, the light of the stars covered by large ominous clouds. There is battle somewhere, but Sun Liao is away from the battle, for now. Sun turns toward a small sea of faces, torches scattered throughout a battalion of men, all watching Sun as he turns away. Sun looks to the gate, a symbol of the size and wealth of Luo Yang.
"I will return here, someday. This battle will not be the end of me, we will return heroes, and I will restore honor to my fathers name."
Sun turns back towards his men, and mounts a large white steed. The horse trots past the waiting faces, all watching, stern, scared. They know who they march out against. Dong Zhuo is the proclaimed emperor, he spread his very corruption to the halls of Luo Yang. These men that have gathered with Sun are not warriors or guards, but the people, they are angry and it is time for a change. But they fear the trained armies of Dong, they have heard the rumors of Lu Bu, and some have even claimed to have seen him, but they have sworn bravery and honor to Sun, they have been pushed too far.
"Men, I understand you are afraid. I am as well, but you must remember what this man has done. He has taken this city and slain our beloved emperor, and named himself emperor! That piece of scum does not deserve to read the title of the emperor let alone take it for his own! What he has done to our city can be done to others, I ask no one to follow me but I will not let this man get away with murder! He is not the answer for China, he will lead us to damnation! I can not tell you the right path for China, but I guarantee to you he is NOT the answer and that I believe you already know, that is why you're here. I ask no one to follow me, if you now believe it more important to be with your families, then you have pardon of the oath you have just taken, but if you wish to take control of your own destinies then swear now you will follow me and you will have a say in your destiny! Leave now if you are unwilling!"
The men sit in awe at the figure of Sun Liao, he breathes hard as the horse paces back and forth,
"Leave if you do not want to save your country and your countrymen from tyranny!"
The horses begin to stir as thunder rumbles in the distance, Sun breathes in the air around him, so cold it seems to bring him back to life, he feels alive. He smells the air, he looks over the crowd, he no longer sees fear, he sees inspiration, he sees hurt from injustices from the past, he sees change.
"There is a coalition fighting against Dong Zhuo right now, I have received word that help may be needed still, and I plan on answering that call."
Just then a loud creaking comes from the gate as it begins to open. A split is seen between the thick wooden doors and a light shines through, marching out comes horsemen and archers. A horseman rides to the front and rides next to Sun.
"We have come to follow you Sun Liao, we too are for the true Han and Zhuo is no emperor of ours."
Sun Liao nods in recognition of the riders words, but then recognizes him.
"You are the man from the boat, five years ago, the one that was about to slay me."
The rider looks down in shame of the memory, years past, something he has not forgotten. But looks up again at Sun,
"I am, you have a keen memory. I was younger, more rash then, you had slain my closest friend on that ship. I wanted blood. These past years I've watched you train and have tried to train just as hard so I could defeat you one day, when I had the chance, but I have grown up, I have seen that we are one in the same. You had saved your father as I would have saved my friend. I admired your galantry. And I've always been jealous that you have a name of honor, held in high regard in this city, I am from a simple farmer."
He yet again looks down, shamed by his status in life and his helplessness that so strongly consumes him. Sun reaches over and puts his hand on the mans shoulder,
"You have this wrong my friend, my family name is tainted and that is why I must do this. Your name is still fresh of corruption and dishonor, you get to carve your own path, I feel that mine has already been carved for me. Can you understand that?"
The man looks at Sun, feeling something he hasn't quite felt in a while, courage.
"I see your point, and that is how I know you are the superior of the two of us. I lay down my sword to you, I will follow you to the end of the land and restore order and peace to our country."
The man proceeds to unsheathe his sword and presents it to Sun, but Sun gently lowers his hand,
"You need not lay down your sword, I am no superior to anyone, you are my equal as are all of you. What is your name warrior?"
The warrior looks up at him and smiles,
"I am Zhang Ce, son of Zhang Xiong."
"Then Zhang Ce we ride together to face Dong Zhuo and uproot his corruption from our very land!"
Sun turns on his horse and is about to commence a march when a messenger arrives. Sun listens to the message intently and turns his horse.
"Men it seems we may have an ally to assist us in our venture, we march to Pu Yang!"
Sun Liao and his men turn towards Pu Yang and start marching.
Who would have thought, a cousin? My father has kept far too much from me. I will meet this cousin of mine and we will forge a new world together.

Peaceful Acquisition of a Mighty City?
The journey to Luo Yang was not a very long one, though the journey through the pass was something that Mancheng had not particularly cared for. It was a reminder to him that if he failed, the mammoth structure would first have to be conquered before they could even challenge the city's defenses. That was not an ideal situation at all, considering the number of men and munitions such a campaign for the capitol would require. And with such an expenditure, the potential foes of Wei would most like choose to capitalize upon the weakened forces of the State. That was something Mancheng could not -- would not -- allow to happen.
The capitol of the Han, it was certainly no longer as great as it once was; but for a city that has been through so much, it had recovered relatively nicely. Mancheng was pleased to see this, it made it an even greater to Wei. As Mancheng rode forward, he came across the guards of the gates. Alright, you can do this Li Dian, you can handle this. Was the thought that kept going through his head, he was not even sure what to say.
Despite this, he rode directly up to them, cleared his throat and spoke to them, both calmly and respectfully. "I am Li Mancheng of Wei. I have come to this city to speak with whoever has authority in this city. I have matters of great importance to discuss with he or she. May I be shown to one such person or persons? It is a dire matter indeed." Mancheng sat somewhat impatiently upon his steed, and waited for the guards to respond, he hoped that he would not encounter any trouble from them; as he certainly did not have the time for such things.

It was only in passing the gates that Yan Yu had heard someone was wishing to visit the Palace, to seek audience with someone of rank? The Minister of the militant administration could handle this, though his rank was not the highest...after all, he had the Imperial Nephew in his grasp. "Let him in, tell him that I, Yan Yu, shall see him within." As the guards started to move the minister made haste to the halls in order to recieve this guest of Wei. Was Wei trying to accomplish what Liu Shan did in Bei Hai? Surely not, though the Han was now dead, this was still the Imperial Capitol. Ready, the snake waited for the guest to arrive, knowing that soon someone higher than him would dismiss him; how much he desired to be chancellor.. Liu Shan, the puppet Emperor...

It had been quite a few days, and things in Luo Yang were settled, for the most part. There was some trouble at first, what with the ministers that knew their positions were threatened trying to stir up all kinds of trouble. These men were either banished, or in severe cases, executed. After the cleansing on the Imperial Capitol, men of merit had been put in their places; though, not all the positions had been filled yet. It was a stressful, and regrettable process, one that Mancheng wished he did not have to take part in. Then again, there was much that Mancheng wished he did not have to do or participate in, but he did, and that is what made him different from a coward.
As for cowards, there were many to be found in the capitol, which was another thing that disgusted Mancheng about being there. The Han had long been a great power, and now it was in shambles, almost unable of being revived. In any case, of all the cowards that had been disposed of, whether civilly... or martially, there was at least one left, Yan Yu, the man Mancheng had parleyed with during his mission to wrest control of the city from the ministers of the Court and place it into Cao Cao's, and even his own, hands.
This man was kept around for one reason; he was the guardian of the Imperial Nephew, Liu Chan. This made Yan Yu very valuable to both Li Dian, and Wei in general. Yan Yu had explained the situation to him as such: Wei Yan had come to Luo Yang and then proceeded to waltz off with him to the banquet at Ye for the victory of the forces of Ma Chao and Han Sui. Mancheng then decided that it would be best to have himself and Yan Yu attend the banquet, for all were invited. This would get him a chance at meeting Liu Chan, and it would also give Yan Yu a chance to convince the Imperial scion that he would be better off returning to Luo Yang.
And so, Mancheng's and Yan Yu's journey to Ye began.

The occurances in Luoyang had been somewhat melancholy for the Imperial Court as they felt Cao Cao's control over the city would atleast bring stability, some even trying work out family links to the Cao family. However, most of them felt betrayed for how they were treated, many were stripped of power and others 'delt' with. The court was no full of Wei elected officials and ministers, to the great detest of Yan Yu, who had luckily escaped any form of punishment thanks to Li Dian..also to the Imperial Nephew, Liu Shan. This change was disgraceful, but what could the military minister do but bow? However, there was one thing that Yu liked about this young Wei officer, the fact he was being taken to the banquet in Ye.
"I'm not sure why you are taking me, seeing as I have a carriage myself." Looking at Li Dian as the snake enjoyed travelling on his own, but perhaps it would be quicker. No doubt Wei Yan had already set his claws within the young boy, if all Huang Hao and his work had been ruined.. Then Shan would pay, no matter of his Royalty. But Yan Yu was intrigued by why Li Dian gained much interest into the Imperial Nephew, he was too late to gain favour or control over him.. Was he? If this was an attempt to rid Yan Yu, then this Li Dian had a challenge on his hands.. However, all would be revealed at Ye...
