The first to fall was the Han Empire; ripped apart by internal strife and greed. Then, came the Yellow Turbans and their rebellion; crushed by the regional lords who fought to re-instate the fallen Han. After the Turbans came Dong Zhuo; falling as well to the regional lords who gathered to put down another threat to the country. It seemed rebellion and war, death and destruction, were the norms of the times. Ironically, yet another tyrant would rise to the ultimate position of power. This time, however, there would not be as many lords which could stand up against the might of said leader. The inevitable end seemed to be staring in the collective face of all who opposed Cao Cao, ruler of the north and Hero of the Chaos.
Cao Mengde had united the northern territories under the banner of Wei after defeating the noble Yuan Shao in combat at Guan Du. The victory was amazing to most, as Wei was outnumbered 3 to 1, and it proved just how well trained Cao's armies were. With such momentum and resources behind him, it seemed all the other remaining kingdoms were in for a rough ride.
Liu Biao, Ma Teng, Sun Quan, Liu Bei, Liu Zhang, and Zhang Lu were the majority of leaders still standing on their own. In the south, out of Wei's grasp, were a few other remaining kingdoms under the likes of Hou Xian and Jin Xuan. However, even if all of them stood together it would be unlikely that they would find victory against the juggernaut that was Wei.
The current lay of the land had Liu Bei occupying Xin Ye. Sun Quan and the kingdom of Wu with Chai Sang, Lu Jiang, Jiang Ye, Wu, and Hui Ji; clearly the most powerful of the soon-to-be allied forces. Liu Biao controlled Xiang Yang, Jiang Ling, and Jiang Xia; possessing a powerful navy and skilled commander in said type of warfare. Ma Teng in Xi Liang, An Ding, and Xi Ping. Zhang Lu located at Han Zhong, a strong defensive position; though he lacked in the officer that the other possessed. Finally, Liu Zhang had control of Cheng Du and the surrounding territories; possibly a powerful ally to the others but lacking in reason currently to offer aid. Zhang's location put him away from the current issues as he was further to the west. However, all would come under the control of Cao Cao should they not try to aid on another.
All seemed silent, like the calm before the storm, while Wei was away battling in the north for total supremacy. Only Gongsun Kang remained in Xiang Ping and it was only a matter of time before he too fell to Cao Cao. Shortly after the expedition there, messengers and spies were already arriving in Xin Ye to inform Liu Bei that Wei was planning an assault to the south. Not only that, but word had reached Sun Quan as well and Wu quickly dispatched a messenger to inform Bei.
Although Liu Bei, styled Xuande, possessed many great generals, he did not have the resources nor the man power to defeat Wei. Something would have to be done and luckily for Bei his family was just south in the form of Liu Biao. There, he could find some relief to the building pressure as Biao was currently an ally.
Eyes were now on Xin Ye while the fores of Wei finished up their complete domination of the north...................
