" Form Ranks! Prepare for battle! "
Yelled out Liutenants among the ranks of Meng Lein's men. The Invasion Force of Zhao had entered the lands of Yuan Shao, for what? To plunder them, Raze the villages and massacre civilians? No, more like forceful diplomacy. The Infantry Division of Zhao wasn't large, unlike their Calvary counterpart. Meng was quite fustrated with having to command a pure Unit of Infantry. He was of the Xiongnu, Calvary was their strongest point, and if battle was to ensue he'd have to utilize these men to the best he could. They weren't the bandits recruited as mercenaries yet where rather the basic of any armies, simple conscripts. He lined up the Native Line Infantry infront, and Halberdiers behind them. A Simple formation utilizing Polearms. Once again the General scowled and spat, he needed calvary, and wanted them. They were hundreds of miles from the Shu region of Han Zhong, word had spread to them that Dai Xiang had already rode off to the city. Everything was going into plan, the Xiongnu were already making their mark in China once more. He looked upon the city, a hundred yards outside of Arrow Range incase any Bowmen were mounted upon the walls.
"...Men. Prepare for battle!! "
Yelled Meng Lein, His men letting out a simple war-cry to alert the Yuan force of their arrival in the city's vicinity. Hopefully the Yuan force's would've heard about the Zhao forces and thier alliance with the Xiongnu, if not they'd be in for a rude awakening, China would be destroyed under the might of the mighty Zhao forces, and the self-proclaimed King of the Xiongnu, Dai Xiang.
275 Native Line Infantry [ Spear + Shield Militia ] 200 Native Halberdiers [ Halberdier Militia ]
Zhao forces line up within view of the City walls, Hoping to draw out the forces of Yuan Shao. They weren't actually there to fight, But were there for Diplomacy, Forceful Diplomacy if that.

For a moment, the gates to the city stood silent. Suddenly, a grinding sound was heard as they slowly opened. From the city came the Yuan delegation in this forceful diplomacy. Lieutenant Qu Yi was mounted atop a warhorse he had pilfered from the stables the other day, having been granted no steed of his own by his lord. Behind him was his ever-faithful score of swordsmen, as well as a mixed force of the city’s troops. He wrinkled his nose disdainfully at the sight of the Xiongnu and raised a man to halt his men roughly a hundred yards from the invaders.
”Xiongnu dog! What’re you doing in Yuan Shao’s country? You should be kidnapping maidens and living under a bridge, not wasting the time of real men.” [/tact]

"......"
A disgruntled Meng Lein glared towards the enemy, Being referred to as Dogs by the enemy General. He must not've known the might of the Xiongnu, the soon to be Empire under the rule of Dai Xiang would cause an end to the greatest of empires which now stand in China. He removed his sword from its Sheath upon his hip and Held it forward. He yelled a few words within his own language and the Liutenants issued orders among the men. He joined the Halberdiers, placing himself in the center of them as they began chanting warcries among each section. Slowly they marched forwards, The Line infantry holding out thier spears and thier shields up infront of them, The Halberdeirs ready to assault at any moment. It was a slow uniformed march, one of the only tactics known by Meng Lein when controlling Infantry. Soon it became a fast paced jog, in a sort, Running straight towards the line of the enemy. He had no reason to fear the Lancers, As his men were a full Polearm unit, The best of the Empire [[ only they had ]]. Most of his men were native Chinese, recruited while staying in Chang Sha and traveling the Southern Cities of China. They were use to the terrain, but damn Lein thought it was hot.
" Charge! Fight with Honor! Kill Yuan Shao Dogs! "
Yelled Lein once more in his mediocre Chinese. God he hated the country, Yet his nephew Dai wished to expand his Clan's fame, and this was the only way in his eyes.
Meng Lein and his armies move forwards to meet contact with the enemy army, Morale is high on the Xiongnu Side.

In retrospect, it was rather unfair of Qu Yi to assume the worst based purely upon the visitor’s ethnicity. Perhaps there was a better way. Perhaps, had Qu Yi seen the other man as a man, rather than a Xiongnu, no blood would have been spilt on this day. Perhaps, had he seen the other man as a fellow man, a brother of his in this big family under Heaven, rather than just another man, a friendship could have been forged that would have started a trend amongst the people of the land toward tolerance, acceptance, and love. Perhaps these two men could have ended the wars that plagued he land.
And perhaps Qu Yi would just remember that the Xiongnu bastard had burned and pillaged his way to Chang Sha.
”Steel yourselves, men! It’s time to show these foreign dogs how real men fight! To be fair, Qu Yi naturally assumed that the men under his opponent were also Xiongnu. What kind of spineless Chinaman, Qu reasoned, would fight for anyone outside the Middle Kingdom?
The men under Qu’s command assembled into formation as the Zhao force approached. Qu Yi dismounted and sent his horse back to the city with a slap to the creature’s haunches. He then took up his position in the center of the infantry line. Is twenty elites fanned out, so that they were interspersed amongst the spearmen. The spearmen formed a line of their own in front of the archers; like the battle against Dong Zhuo, they formed into pairs to look after each other. Rather than lashing out at the advancing enemies, they held back, using their shields to defend against their foes’ bulky weapons. The twenty elites would parry attacks, and only strike if they saw an opening. Behind them, the archers drew back their bows. Upon a signal given by Qu Yi, the cavalry divided into three groups, one of thirty and two of fifty. The thirty-man squad stayed behind the archers while the other two groups moved to the flanks of the infantry. On another signal from Qu Yi, the infantry knelt and the archers released heir volley directly at the advancing Zhao. They rose and prepared to defend themselves while the archers reloaded. The cavalry on the flanks waited, ready to advance on Qu’s order.
CCCCCSSSSSSSSSSCCCCC -------BBBBBBBBBB -----------CCC
Meanwhile, in the city, Gao Lan readied the majority of Yuan Shao’s army. Qu Yi had been given a small force to confirm the invader’s intent; however, Gao couldn’t shake the suspicion that this entire clash was Qu’s fault, so he merely waited and watched while the Yuan forces mobilized at the city gates.

" Line Infantry, Prepare for Arrows! "
Yelled out Meng Lein, Halting the army as the Halberdiers knelt down, The Line Infantry Holding thier shields up and forming a Phalanx type formation. The Arrows were shot straight at them, Quite a few men falling due to the attack but at the most part blocking the volley. The men were on the defensive, It was time for him to strike, and strike hard for the insults upon him. " Men, CHARGE! " Yelled Meng Lein once more, the Halberdiers standing on thier feet and took the lead, Charging forwards and attempting to hack and slash at the Defending Spearmen. The Line Infantry would join in on the assault, Meng Lein himself jumping into the fray, slashing at the defending spearmen, attempting to catch sight of Qu Yi. He wanted revenge, the man insulted his honor. The Xiongnu warrior would make him bleed!
Halberdiers lead the assault, Line Infantry and Meng Lein follow up to overwhelm them.

The fight along the line was fierce; although the halberdiers had reach, their opponents had shields. The result was a smattering of losses on both sides. Making more of an impact were Qu Yi’s swordsmen. These men, battle-hardened from numerous fights, were adept at dealing with polearms; indeed, the majority of their foes had wielded them. They hopped in and out, parrying a strike here, making a reply of their own there. Unlike most of the men involved in the fighting, Qu Yi’s swordsmen were among the most competent in their class.
Qu Yi himself was among them. He weathered the initial attack by bringing both swords up to catch his foe’s blade, just barely stopping it. He turned it aside and, lunging forward, found the man woefully unprepared to respond. A quick slash ended that encounter, and Qu deftly hopped back into position, narrowly dodging a thrust from his victim’s successor. He gave a shout and continued to fight. The spearman on his right managed to entangle his foe’s halberd head with his own weapon; taking the opportunity, Qu quickly stabbed the halberdier, barely focusing as he ended the man’s life.
”Ha, try to sack our city, eh? You picked the wrong man to mess with, Xiongnu bastards!”
As the fighting began along the infantry lines, Qu Yi’s cavalry slowly trotted forward, picking up speed. They knew better than to meet their foes head-on. If the Zhao infantry tried to confront them, they would simply alter their course somewhat and move farther to the east or west. While fearsome in a frontal encounter, such infantry was slow, awkward, and vulnerable to being flanked, and that’s exactly what t Qu Yi intended to do.
The horsemen rode out around the Zhao infantry; if the infantry ignored them, they would turn swiftly and slam into their flanks. If they moved to block the maneuver, their center would be thinned. If this occurred, the cavalry at the rear of Qu Yi’s force would give a shout; this would be the signal for Qu Yi’s infantry to jump back and crouch quickly and for the archers to let loose another volley. At this close range, without shields, the Zhao halberdiers would be decimated. This would cause an opening that Qu’s infantry would then seize upon. This outcome wasn’t expected, but then again, both armies’ commanders were fighting on the front lines, so conveying orders would be difficult both ways. In the event of the Zhao forces doing anything unexpected, the cavalry had orders to continue around to the rear of the enemy formation. In their tight-knit phalanx, it would be difficult for the relatively untrained militia under the command of the horse lord to reconfigure in time to stop an assault from the rear.

Losses-
Meng Lein 35 Native Halberdiers 15 Native Line Infantry
Qu Yi 30 Spear + Shield Militia 5 Sword + Shield Elite
The Zhao Warband fought hard against the forces of Yuan, Yet those Bastard Elites were slaughtering his men left and right. He was sent here for diplomacy, Yet as of now it evolved into war, and the insults aimed at him were now evolving this skirmish into something else. A Duel would usually be proclaimed, although as of now he needed to figure a way of destroying the enemy formations, as he could tell they were pulling one of the simplest ouflanking techniques, utilizing Calvary. He gathered together 30 or so Line Infantry and sent them towards the right flank to confront and harass the approaching Lancer Calvary. He ran towards the left flank, gathering a smaller group of Fifteen Line Infantry to follow him and harass the calvary appraoching the left flank. Qu Yi was lucky, Meng Lein put his anger aside and put his the lives of his men first.
He wasn't attempting to show off to his men, Joining the fray and just slaughtering people left and right. He wanting a crushing victory for Zhao, to leave a mark on Yuan Shao's Kingdom. The Lines were set, and it was easy to see that his men were beginning to get the upper-hand in the battle. To truly win the battle, He'd have to stop the approaching Calvary, and route those bowmen behind the Enemy Line of Battle. It would be hell attempting to do that although, and he'd have to utilize all the tactics he had learned from Dai Xiang involving infantry.
He yelled out to the Lieutenants of the Line Infantry to press harder against thier Line and let the Halberdiers move back to the second line. Slowly it was spread around and Halberdiers fell back in small groups. The Line Infantry would clash with the Spear and Shield Militia making them quite even. Eventually the groups of Native Infantry on the flanks began to harass the Mounted Lancers attempting to outflank his men, And attempted to keep them at bay. It was beginning to swing in the favor of neither side now, And following another devastating volley morale dropped on his side.

(( Dunno what Gryff was leading you to believe, but you're not having Chang Sha. ;D))
Xifeng was not happy with Qu Yi's Behavior... though, senice when had it been her place before to reprimad him for his actions? Up until recently, it hadn't been. But with recent events ... Oh well, anyone who showed up with a small force announcing their intent for battle outside their gates deserved whatever they got.
They had exited from the other gateway, her and her men thundering toward the sight of the battle. The Beautiful Devil's brow furrowed as her and her small force (In compaison to her army, anyway.) trotted up from the Qu Yi's left, the reins of her Horse in one hand and Demon's Claw in in the other. She eyed the scene before her with distaste, before calling out to the others.
"That's enough of this!" She roared, Golden eyes flashing as she first pointed her weapon at the other general, then toward the newcomer. "You, leave our lands or face of our full army. Qu Yi ... We'll have a talk about you're behavior later."
The other threw the woman a look that was in no way friendly, which possibly hinted that he still wasn't over the face a woman had saved him on the battlefield, from Lu Bu, no less. His troops hesitated slightly, switching to the more defensive stances. That woman could be scary when she wanted too... " Hm...new threat on field.."
His men were neck and neck with the force of Qu Yi when he noticed another force appear to his left flank. What a battle is was beginning to become. He saw that the were lead by a woman, Who in a sense began to call out to the general he was facing, and to him. It was a squeaky sound in his mind, This women believed she was high and mighty due to whatever status she held. Meh, His objectives weren't war, yet Qu Yi had initiated the acts of violence first. He could've easily matched the Men they had, even though they were handicapped in a sense, He was no fool when it came down to the ethics of war, And a prodimenent Calvary Force could easily outflank him. He pulled from a holster his War-horn, Holding it to his mouth and with a thunderous blow he initiated the Retreat-call. It roared across the battlefield, His men slowly running backwards and towards the way they came from. All the plans were in motion, Liu Bei, Yuan Shao, Ma Chao. Each of them had presence of the Xiongnu in thier kingdom areas, Now he was to head east and rendezvous with the main warband.
Meng Lein orders the retreat.
Him and his men begin to retreat, running away from the field. =D
Don't think ya won the battle due to numbers =[ I have better stuff to do than to 'mingle' with ya when my friend isn't gunna be active for some time ;]
