We need a bookie. We need a guy/guild or whatever where our characters can go to, and wager gold on the battles taking place. We can have favorites, over's and unders, time zones, etc. DO IT, IT'S A GOOD IDEA

I'm betting $5 that this idea is shot down. =P
What're my odds?

Actually, I'm not opposed to the idea. I just needed to take a side for the sake of the joke.

I actually think this is one of the best ideas I've ever heard..
The problem is implementing it in context with RPing, if at all. I wouldnt mind calculating the odds myself and being the bookie. Some rules would be added also.. the gambling could actually influence the fate of battles or duels - people might bet against themselves for massive amounts of money. While the positives make it a very cool idea, I can't help but think people will take advantage of it. Worth consideration either way.

I can only assume one of the rules would be no betting on yourself.

Hmmm sounds like I am going back to LOAE....Jorge's site done this before but with just duels which I think people could only bet in IC or OOC Tournaments or for here it would be OOC Battles also. Thats pretty much it. IC Battles we could do but then it will only drive people to fight just for wealth. I mean...if you were in the Civil War era then you could do it. People sat on hills watching the battles...could have done it then. Hmmm ok...I will agree on this also. One thing though, If your betting...you cant fight in the battle. We can start this with the Random Battle. We will make a new thread...somewhere and it will be the Betting Table or something. Should wait on Ryan's approval but mostly...he will give the go ahead anyway.

It can have a trial period for that first battle... but i do not like the idea of mass wealth being achieved by some other means in the game.
Money should be regulated to be fair. But go ahead for now.

If Alencon makes a system where the money can be somewhat regulated, as in the amount one can bet, then (like a % of ones current gold, or for the number of people in the battle, etc etc) then you probably won't have to worry.

Good idea, we'll put some caps on the amount that can be gambled at any one given time, and also how frequently you can gamble, etc.
Obviously we'll limit people from betting on themselves, and I'll also be reserving the right to void any bet at any given time: if I think there's anything suspicious about a battle/duel, like someone deliberately taking a loss just to increase a friend's wealth, then all bets will be made void.
I might experiment with other things as well, other than win/loss odds. Might include things like "the probability of X event happening", though obviously again it'll have to be regulated heavily. I'll see what I can do anyway.

What if we just used something other than money, so there was no in-game percentage?
I propose googles. They've held up under the rigorous test of their chief city burning down, and their stronger than ever!
Also, too lazy to long in.
