Guan Yu was born in the county of Xie. The year of his birth is not found in historical records.
Guan Yu fled his hometown at the age of twenty-three after slaying a local bully named Lü Xiong. Five years later, he arrived in Zhuo Commandery, where Liu Bei was recruiting a force to heed the government's call to resist the Yellow Turban Rebellion. Together with Zhang Fei, Guan Yu joined Liu Bei and fought against the rebel forces in northern China. For his efforts Liu Bei was appointed governor of Pingyuan County. Guan Yu and Zhang Fei were also made commanders and given their own divisions of troops.
A New Chapter
A few years had passed since the end of the Yellow Scarves. The three brothers however had been divided by a certain action. Though their whereabouts to each other were unknown there were rumors of there being a man that had donned the banner of Shu. Words of this had reached Guan's ears and it had drawn him instantly to the place. Though on his way he was deterred.
The interference was that of a corrupt man, who had seized power in the Emporer's court. The man went by the name of Dong Zhuo. This, being against Guan's new morality from being around his brothers for so long, had moved Guan to action. He had found himself amongst a large group of "Heroes" and men who had made a name for themselves through the chaos of war. Guan himself had cared very little and had thought of this as a two way winning situations. The first would be to rid the land of a corrupt usurper and the other would be the potential to find his brothers, knowing that they would not be able to stand for this.
His goals were true and he had found both his brother Zhang Fei and his older brother Liu Bei. They had been a fearsome trio on the battlefield and even Liu Bei took Hua Xiong's head and Zhang Fei took the head of a mutant under the service of Dong Zhuo. Despite not trying to make a large name for himself during the dispute with Dong Zhuo, Guan had been viewed as a God of War to those who actually witnessed him in battle. Soon the end of Dong Zhuo came and there was an inspiring banquet held afterwards where Guan could see the cunning of the warlords at work, along with his two brothers, Guan stood mostly to the side and against walls until they had left.
An Interesting Detour
On Guan's way home he had met a soldier from the battle against Dong Zhuo. The man had also made a name for himself through the battle. His name was Wei Yan. Guan spoke with the man for a while and then rode to the local barracks with the man, there Guan had challenged the man to a friendly spar, wanting to see one of the men who had faced of the fearsome Lu Bu in battle. The duel was a quick one, after seeing no more of a reason to continue the duel Guan had thrown Wei Yan over his head, acquiring his spear in the process and proposed them stop, though he was jawed in the process of the animalistic dueler.
Guan had built up a friendship with the man, holding him in high regard after seeing his prowess in a duel. Though they could not speak for longer Wei Yan and Guan Yu went their seperate ways, and Guan had begun his journey home once again.
How Many Detours!?!? Wait... this one is fruitful!
Again, Guan had been sidetracked on his route home from the banquet. He had gained a good scene of the land and had mistakenly taken a route towards a small village. There he met a woman who was at the battle against Dong ZHuo and also stood off against Lu Bu. He also saw the man of the Yuan Kingdom that had assisted Guan in wounding the mutant of Dong Zhuo.
After a while of speaking he had challenged the man Zhang He as well. Though their duel could not begin they had both seemed anxious to battle each other. The lady had decided to leave her village and find employment under Yuan Shao, along with Zhang He. So Guan was asked to leave the city by its militia.
On Guan's walk out of the village He had seen the most spectacular sight he had in his years. It was that of a horse, whose coat shone like fire dancing in the wind. Guan had snuck upon the horse and mounted it. It struck out, the speed shocking Guan beyond his thoughts. After a few minutes Guan had tamed the horse and had rode him back to Shu, the Brothers had been reunitied.
The Red Scarves
Not too long after Guan Yu had returned to Shu he was ordered to go and speak with the men of Yun Nan to see if they would come under the protection of Shu willingly, if not Guan would have to take the city for his brother's dream. Guan had rode ahead of his troops with a few guards and when he was half way inside of the city he was ambushed by a group that called themselves the "Red Scarves".
Thankfully for Guan his lieutenant could see the smoke and his ally, Yan Liang, had advanced in response. After a short battle The day had been won by Guan Yu and Yan Liang was nowhere to be found. Now Guan is stationed in Yun Nan to develop the city and help his brother fulfill his dream.
