The city of Chang An had been loving in it's own right to the war veteran's and their tired troops. As a whole, everyone had been fine with the warrior living there, but it seemed that some of the people were having quite a hardtime with the warrior's reputation as a barbarian on the battlefield. Many thought that this man could snap at any moment and while he was gone to Luo Yang, had risen up in rebellion against the officials of Chang An, demanding Wei Yan and his men leave. So word was sent to the warrior and his friend, Lu Rai in Luo Yang from the retainer in Chang An. In only a matter of time the warrior and his companion had returned and the unit of elites had formed up outside of Chang An waiting their leaders arrival.
The gates swung wide open and the streets were littered with random vegetables and bits of blood here and there. As Wei Yan and Lu Rai walked with the elites in two, many heads of lettuces, tomatoes, rocks, and other things were thrown at them. A good size rock caught Wei Yan across the brow and split him open rather well. Needless to say, the warrior was pissed, but that was the reason they were rebelling now anyway, his anger, so Yan just bit his tongue and kept walking. It wasn't long before the two men were inside the council hall looking at the retainer who was frantic and cursing Wei Yan for ever coming to this place.
"Blasted warrior! You aid the loyalists and now you think you can take whatever it is you please! Damned be your life! Damn it all!" groaned the retainer as Wei Yan just lowered his head and took the yelling. "So what do you have to say for yourself, dog!?"
"Rai, ready the men." stated Yan slowly, and Lu Rai left the halls to collect all the men. "Loyal Servant of the Han, I say to you this. Your city is in an uproar because you have allowed him to make a home here, so I will solve your problem. I shall have my men spread out and quell the pockets of rebellion and all the leaders will be brought before you. Do you have any names for the leaders?"
The retainer was almost taken back at the warrior. He'd half expected for the man to propose just killing all the people, or heaven's grace the man would just leave. But this, this was something far better. This was a police force for Chang An and a chance for the retainer to keep control of his city. With a quick nod the retainer spoke.
"Umm... Yes... The farmer Bo Ran lies outside the walls. A blacksmith, Shu Gan resides in the market, and the final is a women in the tavern. A barmaid who speaks her mind to any she can get to listen. They call her, Shi Li. If you bring these three to me, I promise this rebellion will be at an end." the retainer spoke quickly with a giddy voice that Wei Yan knew to mean he'd said the right words to the retainer.
"Very well, I will bring these people before you. You can do with them what you will, and in the way I promise no person will be hurt." stated Yan flatly as Lu Rai made his way back into the halls. "Yan, the men are waiting the order, what would you have of them?"
"Circle the palace, make sure no rebel attempts an attack on the retainers life. Understood?"
Lu Rai merely nodded and sent word for the men to do as Wei Yan had said. With that the two warriors left for the fields, set on getting this farmer, Bo Ran.
By the time Lu Rai had tracked down where this farmer lived, it was about midday. The two warriors made their way towards the field smiles on their face, almost content with how things had panned out. Sadly, this content ended quickly as an arrow shot past Lu Rai's brow just missing both men. Not a word was spoken, but both men had brandished arms. Lu Rai drew his shortsword and shield while Wei Yan took the spear from his back.
From the haystacks in the fields came men, dressed in the colors of Dong Zhuo's rebels, remaining rebels who had a bone to pick with the warriors no doubt. So there they were, Lu Rai and Wei Yan back to back surrounded by about twenty men.
The first enemy charged with a spear straight for Wei Yan, hellbent on skewering the warrior. Yan hit his normal defensive stance, spear pointed towards the ground, covering his whole left side as he stood sideways. Shoving the spear out wide with the haft of his own spear, Yan buried the blunt in of his spear into the man's gut and then slammed the blade of his spear through the man's back. A gurgling scream ushered and the man was dead.
This wasn't the only thing to happen though, at the same time that Yan reacted, Lu Rai was charged by a man wielding twin axes. Rai readied himself, his sword in a reverse grip and his shield held strong out infront of him. The twin-axeman brought the blades down upon Lu Rai one after the other. Rai's shield batted the first one to the side while his blade caught the other right under the axe head, tossing it to the same side as the one before it. With that, Rai brought around his shortsword and buried it into the man's gut, ripping the blade out through his side.
With that, the battle was on! Lu Rai spurred attention of the next set of men, charing one and shieldbashing him to the ground while parrying the sword of another and stabbing him in the collar. Wei Yan was another sight as two swordsmen rushed him. The first one got the broad side of his spear across the wrists while the warrior kept the momentum and jumped up a bit bringing his spear blade down directly into the other swordsman's shoulder. The swordsman on Yan wasn't so quick to back down though and kept on charging, blade high above his head.
With a charging swordsman nearly on his, Yan let go of his spear and took the battle-axe from his back and stepped into the swordsman, using a hanging parry to not only catch the sword but send it flying from it's owner's hands. With that, Yan gave a slight turn of the body and buried the axe blade deep in the man's chest. Lu Rai simply sent a stern boot into the man's jaw he had drove to the ground, snapping his neck almost instantly.
The battle between the militia and the two esteemed warriors lasted for maybe a minute, and then all of the attackers lay dead. The two then finished their march to the farmer's house, maybe a hundred yards away. A raps on the door and the farmer answered, skiddish and shaking.
"Y-Y-Y-Yessss?" asked the man shyly looking up at the powerful Wei Yan.
"Are you Bo Ran?" asked Wei Yan quickly.
"Y-Yess... But I swear it was all those loyalists of Dong Zhuo's idea! They threatened to burn my crops and kill my family! What was I to do?"
Wei Yan looked the man over and then turned to Lu Rai. "Escort him to the retainer's hall. Make sure he's allowed to speak his whole story. I think I'll go speak to the blacksmith now."
Lu Rai just nodded and took the man by the arm gently, leading him towards the council halls. The farmer looked relieved for a moment, then he saw all the dead bodies in his field and was overtaken by sickness, puking all over the ground. Lu Rai sighed a bit and just let the man have his moment before continuing on.

The Fields of Bo Ran
